The book features 71 in-camera diptychs, made on a 1964 Olympus Pen-F half-frame camera. Every pairing was decided in the moment of shooting, not in the edit. Two frames on one negative, chosen a second apart, with no way to take it back.
The book is about ordinary days. There are no images of the war in it, although it was always present in the background. People holding onto what makes life feel normal. Cooking, family, what people keep on a windowsill, lively streets in the city and dirt roads in the countryside.
With an essay by World Press Photo and Emmy winner Julia Kochetova, and recipes by bestselling author Alison Roman and Ukrainian chef Anastasiia Klymenko. Illustrated map by Jeffrey Phillips.
Signed and numbered by hand. 21x26 cm. 64 pages. Cahier-stitched with red thread. 142 images, a mix of color and black and white, on uncoated paper. Printed by fine art printer robstolk in Amsterdam. Designed by Maxwell George.
