To Surrender Dreams

This project is called: "To Surrender Dreams" which is a partial quote from this section of Don Quixote:

Perhaps to be too practical is madness. To surrender dreams — this may be madness. Too much sanity may be madness — and maddest of all: to see life as it is, and not as it should be!”

I’ve been working on this project for a while. This body of work was born from a time when life felt uncertain, for various reasons, like being lost at sea. Between us: Part of the story is the stresses and uncertainties of being a freelance photographer, the duality of feeling lucky to be able to pursue a dream and wondering if it’s a smart move for the future, and the idea of wanting to support a (future) family, etc. With each image, I try to capture the feeling of drifting and searching for something solid to hold onto. Drifting can be the delightful weightlessness of surfing the wave of our dream as an artist, but also the feeling of being unmoored.
